FREE SHIPPING ABOVE A LIMIT - but not for all zones

This is only a problem for standard shipping. With Advanced Shipping, each table can have its own 'free shipping over' value.

STANDARD SHIPPING

You must not specify a flat handling fee in shipping setup as it would always apply.

The option numbers mentioned in the headings are those you would normally use if the requirement for free shipping did not exist.

If SHIPPING is normally a FIXED CHARGE per ORDER (option 1)
Change to option 7 with the units=price box checked. If your fixed charge is 6 and your free limit is 50 then specify a table
UNITS COST
1 ____ 6 ____ charge 6 for anything
49 ___ 0 ____ nothing more until order value is 50
0.01 _ -6 ___ subtract the 6 to reset to zero
If SHIPPING is a FIXED CHARGE per ITEM (option 2)
Change to option 5 with the units=price box checked. If your fixed charge is 0.1 and your free limit is 50 then specify a table
UNITS COST
50 ____ 0.1
0.01 __ -500 ___ subtract to reset to zero
If SHIPPING is based on the VALUE of the ORDER (options 3, 5, 7 with the units=price box checked).
Include a final row at your limit subtracting the charge so far.
Value of the order - Option 3
Change to option 5
Value of the order - Option 5
Option 5 with the units=price box checked. An example with a charge of 10% of the order value with a minimum of 5, and a limit of 100.

UNITS COST
1 _____ 5 ____ charge 5 for the first unit (5*1)
49 ____ 0 ____ nothing more until 5 is 10% of the value (units total = 50)
50 ____ 0.1 ___ add a tenth of anything between 50 and 100
0.01 __ -1000 __ subtract 10 to reset to zero if over 100

Value of the order - Option 7
Option 7 with the units=price box checked. An example with a limit of 100.

UNITS COST
10 ____ 5 ____ charge 5 for a units total of up to 10
40 ____ 3 ____ add 3 for up to 40 more
50 ____ 2 ____ add 2 for up to 50 more
rest ___ -10 __ reset to zero if over 100

If SHIPPING is based on the NUMBER of ITEMS (options 2, 4, or 6) or based on the UNITS total and not on the order value (options 3, 5, 7 without the units=price box checked), then there is a problem!
You cannot add a final negative row to the table when the units total reaches your free over limit, because the UNITS value in the table is not the order value. If there is any relationship between order value and shipping charge you might manage a rough equivalent. For example, if you charge shipping at 1.5 per lb and the typical product cost of a pound is 5 then the following option 5 table would eliminate shipping for an order exceeding 20lb in weight, or around 100 order value.

UNITS COST
20 ___ 1.5 __ charge up to 30
0.01 _ -3000 _ subtract 30
